Solar Activity

Solar activity this week was moderate to high. A Major Flare Watch was issued for NOAA AR 1654 on the 11th January. The region produced 13 C class and 2 M class flares in a period of 24 hours. This was followed by a number of C class flares and 2 M class flares by NOAA AR 1652. There were also number of C class events form NOAA 1650 over the past few days. NOAA 1652 and 1654 have decayed and the Major Flare Watch was called off, but NOAA 1654 it still classified as a large F-type beta-gamma region, with the possibility of an M class flare. The region is currently positioned to the west of the central meridian.

There are currently are currently 9 active regions on the disk, although 5 of these, including NOAA 1650 and NOAA 1652, will rotate over the limb within the next couple of days. STEREO B shows one active region on the far-side of the Sun that will rotate onto the disk sometime within the next week.

How many GOES flares occurred?

 Flares above B, C, M, X class were 7 54 4 0

And how many of these are listed in the RHESSI flare list?

 Flares above B, C, M, X class were 1 16 2 0

And how many had EXCELLENT coverage?

 Flares above B, C, M, X class were 1 11 2 0

There were RHESSI flares/GOES flares 223 / 65 over the time range 09-Jan-13 16-Jan-13

Memory Management

SSR is currently emptying at the end of the pass set. Max this week was ~33%.

Spacecraft Status

The cold plate 2 is at 108.9K. Spin rate is at 14.5

Data Gaps

There are several VC1 and VC3 data gaps reported, between 6-jan and 11-jan, however all the data is on the ground. This was due to Wallops data processing getting hung up. The data is being processed and will appear in the browser shortly.

Detector issues

Due to the Major Flare Watch, operations to raise the detector 2 HV were postponed until the region decays and there is not the possibility of an M class flare.

No other issues were found for the detectors this week.
